Garnethill Synagogue

This evening, my theme is the listed ( official heritage) building at Garnethill In Glasgow which is Scotland’s oldest Synagogue. This was built in 1879 and has recently benefited from extensive renovation work and is now restored to its original Victorian splendour. Here is the Scottish Jewish Archives Centre. The collections include synagogue registers and minute books of Jewish organisations, photographs, books, newspapers, oral histories, paintings and sculptures, immigration papers, friendly society regalia and youth group uniforms, ceremonial keys, trophies and war medals.

Admission is free. There is also a bookshop.

Elsewhere today, I have been busy arranging and finalising a number of upcoming private tours including Scottish Battlefields and Edinburgh. Posted to my separate Glasgow Ancestry information on McWhirter family history.
