This evening, my theme is Castle Sinclair Girnigoe, near Wick in N.E. Scotland. The castle has close connections with Clan Sinclair. The building is currently undergoing a combine archaeological research programme and stabilisation/restoration which is aimed to provide more information on the history of the castle and secure the structure for future generations.

Superficially, there appears to be two buildings here but it transpires there is just one castle complex based on an original late 15th century Tower House with the site dating back to the late 14th century. Official records are sketchy pre-1700 but the castle was associated with the Sinclairs in 1606.

Overall. this is an impressive site set against the backdrop of Sinclair Bay. It is pleasing to see that Clan Sinclair have initiated a restoration programme, albeit at considerable expense. In due course it is envisaged that the public will be allowed access.

Elsewhere today:

  • Have been busy with various upgrades to IT equipment.
  • Corresponded with a visitor who wishes a self-drive holiday.
  • Posted information on King ancestry to my Glasgow Ancestry blog.

Weather in Glasgow has been very wet, although there are blue skies evident this evening.
