Today, commenced with a very early start. At 5.00am I was able to take some stunning images of  a brilliant red sunrise at Broadford on Skye.

Ferry to Mallaig

At 9.15 we departed our comfortable lodgings in time to connect with the 10.15am ferry from Armadale to Mallaig on the mainland. The ferry departed on time. Highlight of the 25 min journey was a small pod of dolphins close to Mallaig Harbour as per video clip below.

After arrival at Mallaig we drove south, tracking the coast and after about 30 mins picked a suitable spot to view the Jacobite Express or ‘Harry Potter’ train en-route to Mallaig. See video clip below.

Next we arrived at Glenfinnan for a short stop. This historic site is where Bonnie Prince Charlie landed in 1745 to commence his ultimately doomed campaign to take over the thrones of Scotlabnd and England by force. There is a monument the landing, an image of which is provided below.

After departing Glenfinnan, we continued south, via Fort William, to Glencoe, a site famous fior the 1692 massacre and stunning scenery. We availed of a lunch stop at the Visitor Centre but views were hampered by rain and low cloud.

Next we departed to Inveraray via desolate Rannoch Moor.

Inveraray Castle

On arrival we had a drive past view of the castle and then a walk around the town before moving on to our final destination of Strathaven, south of Glasgow and our lodgings for the night at Rissons. We had an evening meal at The Strathaven Hotel, part of the Best Western chain.
