This evening, my theme is Highland Dancing.

Highland Dancing

Highland dancing dates back about 800 years with origins in folk dancing. As will be seen from this video, this activity requires a high level of athletic fitness and stamina. There are links to classical ballet. Ladies participation dates from around the turn of the 20th century.

Dancing over swords is believed to be a fairly recent development, possibly 19th century in origin with a romantic links to the past. It has been suggested that sword dances were performed  prior to or post battle.

Elsewhere today, I have been busy arranging:

  • A golf tour for a group of three from the U.S.
  •  A week long Scotland tour for a small group for next month.

Also, posted information on Aitken family history to my separate Glasgow Ancestry blog.

Weather in Glasgow has been somewhat cool for time of year with spots of rain.
