This morning, we collected the tour group from the Waterside Hotel, Inverness and proceeded as follows:

  • Across the Moray Firth, Black Isle and Cromarty Firth to Glenmorangie Whisky Distillery where we arrived about 10.00am and joined a tour which took us through the malting, mashing, fermentation, distillation and maturation process through to the finished product which is usually sold as a 10 year single malt. After some purchases at the distillery shop we moved on.

  • Next we visited Dunrobin Castle, a 189 room fairy-tale castle home to the Dukes of Sutherland. The castle overlooks beautiful gardens and the nearby sea shore. After a tour of the castle and gardens we had a light lunch here before moving on.

  • Our next destination was the very pleasant small town of Dornoch, famous for its golden sandstone houses and cathedral with latter dating from the 13th century. Here there are good golf courses including the Royal Dornoch.
