This morning, our tour group assembled at Edinburgh Grassmarket and then embarked on the following motor coach and walking tour:

  • To park at foot of Salisbury Crags which afforded elevated view of Edinburgh City in background basking in a modicum of sunshine. Our coach driver, George, was in good spirits as his football team had a ‘win’ previous night.

  • Costco: To enable a guest to purchase a luggage item.
  • Rosslyn Chapel: Famous 15th C place of worship with a long and chequered history but best know for concentration of high quality medieval stone carvings inside. Featured in Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code.

  • Edinburgh Castle: First we availed of some lunch then embarked on a tour taking in the One O’clock Gun, Scottish Crown Jewels and the Stone of Destiny.

  • Royal Mile: Gentle walk downhill taking in various sites including old Scottish Parliament Building, St. Giles Cathedral and World’s End.

  • Palace of Holyroodhouse: A Royal residence on historic site situated at foot of Royal Mile. Interesting architecture, ruined abbey and Mary, Queen of Scots connection.
  • Evening dinner at Scottish Restaurant, Stac Polly (named after a location in the Highlands). Returned to hotel in Grassmarket.
