Today, our tour schedule was changed due to impending bad weather. We brought the trip to St. Andrews forward by one day resulting in the following programme:

  • Departed Inverness about 08.45am and drove round to Benromach Distillery at Forres calling in briefly at Nairn Golf Course.

  • Enjoyed a good private tour of Benromach, which is part of the Gordon and MacPhail Group. We had benefit of a private tour provided by a tour guide very experienced in the whisky industry who talked us through the entire malting, mashing, fermentation, distillation and maturation process.

  • Next we drove down to Dunkeld stopping briefly at Aviemore for a refreshment break.
  • Upon arrival at Atholl Arms, Dunkeld we unhitched the luggage trailer and drove on for another hour to our target destination of St. Andrews and in particular the famous Old Course.

Tour Group at Swilken Bridge

  • We took pictures at Swilken Bridge, had a drive around the key sites of the town, some refreshment and then drove back to Dunkeld via the Tay Bridge at Dundee. Here we were able to photograph a huge Oil Rig which had been moved to the area for maintenance work and now dominates the local skyline.

  • We finally arriove at our Dunkeld base in time for evening meal at 6.45pm. Mission accomplished as the weather forecast is clearly for a wet day tomorrow which we can work around after completing St Andrews.
