Distillery Tour at Auchentoshan, Glasgow

Distillery Tour at Auchentoshan, Glasgow, Scotland

This morning, I collected my guests from Gleddoch House Hotel and then  proceeded to the two whisky distilleries in close proximity to Glasgow, namely Auchentoshan and Glengoyne.

We duly arrived Auchentoshan at about 1015 in time for the ‘Auchentoshan Experience’ tour which lasts just under two hours and entails tasting of some five single malts.

Here is an image of Auchentoshan Distillery which is owned by Suntory of Japan. Bowmore of Islay is in the same group.

Here are the three stills at Auchentoshan. As a Lowland category distillery, the spirit is distilled three times vs double distillation elsewhere in Scotland.

After Auchentoshan we drove  to the foot of Dumbarton Castle (to view the Clyde) then to  the southern tip of Loch Lomond and on to our next destination of Glengoyne but first stopping for lunch at the Beech Tree Inn  (close to Glengoyne). Unfortunately, photography at Glengoyne is restricted.

Here is a view of part of the distillery complex which has a history dating back to the early 1800s. This is one of the few distilleries still in private hands.

After completing the Glengoyne tour we drove round to the historic heritage village of Luss on Loch Lomond. Here we enjoyed a stroll around the village, viewed Loch Lomond from the pier and visited the historic church. Below is an image of Ben Lomond (mountain) with a light covering of snow still in evidence.

After completing our mini-tour of Luss we drove back to Gleddoch House at Port Glasgow and fond farewells. Tour was aided by reasonably benign weather for the time of year.
