Strathisla Distillery , Keith

Strathisla Distillery , Keith, Scotland

This morning, I collected my guests from their Aberdeen hotel and then proceeded N W to the charming town of Keith. Here we joined a tour of Strathisla Distillery, part of the Pernod Ricard drinks group, and which dates back to the 18th century. This was a good tour which took us through the principal stages of whisky making, i e malting, mashing, fermentation, distillation and maturation. With the distillery resplendent in the warm sunshine it easy to understand how Strathisla has been nominated as the prettiest distillery in Scotland.

After a short sampling session at Craigellachie we drove to Glenfiddich Distillery with brief visits to Balvenie Distillery and Balvenie Castle en-route.

After a pleasant lunch at Glenfiddich restaurant we joined a small group, Connoisseur Tour lasting over two hours. This took us through all the key whisky making processes in detail with a session on maturation and blending in the warehouse. The tour culminated with a sampling of four Glenfiddich malts. Overall, a quality tour.
