Bothwell Castle, Uddingston, Scotland

This evening, my focus is on Bothwell Castle, one of the few great castles of Scotland which are within easy reach of Glasgow. This huge edifice stands on the banks of the River Clyde and dates from the 13th century. The building project was initiated by Walter of Moray but was never completed as originally envisaged.It is possible the 13th century Wars of Independence interrupted construction. However, the great tower or donjon was completed. Overall, the castle represented a symbol of Moray’s status and wealth.
