This morning, I collected tour group from Greenock cruise ship terminal and proceeded as follows:

  • Across the River Clyde, into the Trossachs and then to Aberfoyle. Here we had to cancel pre-arranged golf due to persistent rain and instead opted for a tour of nearby Glengoyne Distillery whilst leaving a  small group at Aberfoyle to participate in a Go Ape adventure.

  • After completion of a successful distillery tour at Glengoyne the main group returned to Aberfoyle to re-join the Go Ape group and avail of a spot of lunch.
  • Next we drove to Doune Castle which featured in the film ‘Monty Python and the Holy Grail’. Being pressed for time we spent about 10 mins for photographs and then moved to nearby Stirling Castle.

  • At Stirling Castle we visited all the main sections including, Great Hall, Kitchens, Chapel Royal, Weaving Exhibition and the newly re-opened and restored Royal Apartments. Dring our visit we encountered a Pipe Band marching through the castle as per image at top of this post.

  • Next we drove to nearby Wallace Monument of Braveheart fame. Wallace was the victor at the battle of Stirling Bridge which took place close by.
  • Finally, we headed back to Greenock just arriving at the 6.30pm deadline to board the ship.

Notwithstanding the persistent rain we had an enjoyable day visiting a wide range of sites.
