Here we stopped forĀ a quick visit and coffee, then back north for a few miles to visit Dunrobin Castle, a stunning architectural gem and home to the Dukes of Sutherland. In addition to the castle we visited the gardens, museum and watched a falconry display. The museum has a small collection of Pictish carved stones dating from around the 10th century AD.

Next, back to Dornoch for lunch and then south to Glen Ord Distillery where we joined in the 4,00pm tourĀ and learned about the whisky making process from malting, mashing and fermentationĀ  through to distillation and maturation. This isĀ  a large distillery which still undertakes malting on site. An informative tour.
