This morning, we departed our Inverness lodgings about 9.30 and then drove south to Castle Urquhart to view Loch Ness. Weather conditions were reasonable and we benefited from good views of the Loch, both north and south. The castle has a long and interesting history dating from the 12th century.

Next we had a short stop at the Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge and then a lunch stop at Spean Bridge Mill. Unfortunately, the rain and overcast conditions prevented us from travelling up the Aonoch Mor Chair L.ift into the mountains.

Next stop was Oban on the west coast. Here we visited McCaig’s Tower, a 19th century folly which affords superb views over Oban harbour and beyond. After this, some members elected to join a tour of Oban Distillery whilst others explored the town and indulged in some shopping.

Next we continued along the coast stopping for a brief photo shoot of Kilchurn Castle before reaching our final destination of Inveraray on Loch Fyne. Here we checked in to the George Hotel, our lodgings for the night. The George was voted as best tour hotel by the group.
