Stills at Edradour Distillery

This morning collected tlour group from hotel near Edinburgh Airport and then headed north into central Scotland. We crossed the Forth Road Bridge (with view of famous Forth Rail Bridge) and arrive at our first stop at Pitlochry about 10.30am. Here group spent about 45 mins exploring this popular tourist town and then we drove to nearby Edradour Distillery to join tour commencing 11.30am.

Edradour is Scotland’s smallest distillery with two still producing less that 100, 000 litres of whisky p.a. The distillery tour lasted about 50 mins and included a visit to the bonded warehouse to view the maturing casks.

About 12.40 we joined the tour bus and continued north into Speyside, a journey which took about 2 hours. En-route we passed Dalwhinnie Distillery, saw first snow deposits of the season (on mountain tops) and witnessed a spectacular rainbow.

We arrived at our next destination, Macalllan Distillery, ahead of schedule and then availed of a private tour of the distillery which alsted about 60 mins. Here we learned about the malting, mashing, fermentation, distillation and maturation processes with special emphasis on the oak from Spain and America from which the whisky casks are made. Tour concluded with a tasting in the Visitor Centre.

Next, we drove down to our lodgings for the night at Grantown-on-Spey.

Finally, group were transported to Craggan Mill for dinner. This restaurant specialises in whisky themed meals and proved a great success.
