18th C Tenement Block, Gallowgate, Glasgow

 This evening, I am continuing the theme of yesterday’s post with focus on Glasgow’s pre-1800 architecture. These buildings are all concentrated in the old town, now in the east of the city, which was progressively eclipsed by the westward shift of the wealthy classes in turn  financed by the prosperity derived  from industry and commerce as the city developed rapidly on the back of the growth of the (British) Empire.
