Head of Zeus or Poseidon at Burrell Collection, Glasgow
This morning, our tour commenced with a visit to the Govan Carved Stones at Govan Old Church. This comprises a collection of early medieval sculpture from the 9th, 10th, and 11th centuries AD with designs representing a merger of influences from the Picts, Irish, Anglian, Cumbrian and Scandinavian styles. Here can be found the stone sarcophagus of King Constantine a 9th century king from the local area of Strathclyde, the earliest known piece of art in Glasgow.
