Flora MacDonald Monument, Skye

Flora MacDonald Monument, Skye, Scotland

This morning we departed our lodgings at Portree, Skye and then proceeded as follows:

  • A tour around the northern tip of Skye, taking in the wonderful coastal scenery and many sheep with lambs.
  • A quick stop at the Museum of Island Life close to which is Flora MacDonald’s Monument.
  • The Fairy Glen, a small valley featuring ponds and unusual conical shaped hills.
  • The port of Uig where we joined the 1400 ferry to Tarbert on Harris, which ran on time.
  • A Harris Tweed and Knitting Shop near Tarbert on Harris. Here, a member of the group purchased a supply of wool for knitting.
  • A visit to John the weaver at Luskentyre, watching him at work with his single length loom.
  • On through the mountains and rocky landscape of Harris to adjacent Lewis where, at Stornoway, we checked into our lodgings for the night, and then dinner.
