Arisaig, Morar

Arisaig, Morar, Scotland

This evening, I am posting information on the pleasant, loch side village of Arisaig which is located on the West of Scotland, just south of Mallaig.

Key features of Arisaig:

  • The original ‘Long John Silver’ may have lived and/or worked here. Silver was employed on lighthouse construction by father of R.L. Stevenson. Latter was author of Treasure Island.
  • Benefits from good road and rail access, between Mallaig and Fort William.
  • Comprises a nice collection of, mainly, white painted buildings. Here can be found lodgings, restaurants and shops.
  • Popular with pleaure boat enthusiasts ( sailing). There is a functional pier and marina.
  • Arisaig, on southern shores of Loch nan Uamh, was landing place of Bonnie Prince Charlie on Aug 11th 1745.
  • Garramore House ( now a B&B) was the training centre for special agents during WW2.
  • Situated at the southern tip of a magnificent five mile stretch of rocky coastal inlets, silver sands, dunes and machair.

An interesting and scenic spot, worthy of a visit.
