This morning, we departed our Fort William lodgings and then headed west, tracking Loch Linnhe to Glencoe. On arrival we had a quick tour of the village and then drove up into the mountains for views and photos.

Next, we returned to Glencoe and then round the coast road stopping first at Castle Stalker for views and photos.

Next we continued on to Oban and upon arrival there visited the town and distillery culminating in a steep uphill drive to McCaig’s Monument, a strange 19th century construction loosely base on the Coliseum in Rome but which offers superb, high elevation views over Oban Harbour  which was resplendent in the sunshine.

Next, to Kilmartin Glen, calling first to view Carnasserie Castle, just north of the village.

On arrival at Kilmartin House, we had a light lunch then visited the museum and viewed a film. The entire focus here is the interesting prehistory of the area, mainly comprising stone circles, burial cairns and rock art.

Next t o Dunadd Fort for a drive- by view and then down to Achnabreack and the famous ancient rock carvings there.
