This evening, I am focusing on Culross Palace in the town of Culross on the north shore of the River Forth near Dunfermline.

This quaint, ochre coloured building was constructed by George Bruce a 16th century entrepreneur who gained his wealth from coal mining and salt panning in the locality.

The building, in common with many others in the locality, has been preserved for the future via ownership by Scotland’s National Trust, a heritage organisation. Visits to the interior are available to the public. Here can be found splendid interiors, painted woodwork, 17th and and 18th century furniture. Not be missed at the rear are the well maintained palace gardens  managed in the style of the 17th century.

A walk around the rest of this community can be rewarding in terms of architecture appreciation.

Culross ( pronounced ‘Cure-oss’) can be included in a tour of the Fife Coast.
