Ramshorn Kirk

Ramshorn Kirk

This evening, I am posting information on an intriguing church in Glasgow’s Merchant City. In fact, this building no longer functions as place of worship and has been converted to the University of Strathclyde Theatre. However, much of the history and heritage is still extant. To the rear of the church is an extensive burial ground holding the remains of the wealthier section of Glasgow’s society from the late 1700s through to Victorian times. Many of the burials record the deceaseds occupations which affords an interesting insight into commercial activities and professions of 200 years ago with examples including cloth manufacturer, pocket book manufacturer, baker, slater, ironmonger, cordiner plus some academics.
