This evening,I am focusing on Wallingford Castle which is located close to the River Thames and about 15 miles from Oxford.

As explained below, Wallingford Castle was, in its prime, a major fortification and power base during the medieval period but only earth bank foundations remain now as result of a decision by the Council of State in the 17th century to have the castle totally demolished owing to its role as a Royalist stronghold during England’s Civil War.
