Doune Trail Scotland

Doune Trail Scotland

This morning I joined Eastwood Ramblers group for an eight mile (13km)  hike around Doune, Stirlingshire (near Stirling) in Central Scotland.

Hike started at historic Doune Castle  from we embarked on a route tracking the River Teith  and then on through woodland and open countryside taking in an old curling pond and ancient cemetery returning in a loop via Doune Ponds the down an old railway line to to Doune and Doune Castle.

The weather remained relatively benign (for November) although we did encounter rain towards the latter stages which resulted in the group sheltering in a bird-watching hide at Doune Ponds for five minutes or so.

Overall, a well researched and lead walk affording a good insight into the local landscape and history of Doune.
