This morning, I collected my tour guests on schedule at Edinburgh Airport from where we embarked on day 1 of our photography themed tour of Scotland.

Weather conditions were basically favourable although we did encounter some rain towards the end of the day. We were able to capture the golds and browns of autumn scenery together with some historic castles and other buildings.

First, we called in at Castle Campbell, a former tower house which is located high in the Ochills above Dollar. Here we benefited from good, high elevation views with some sunshine.

Next, we moved on to Stirling Castle, stopping for some scenic shots of the Ochills near Tillicoultry.

On arriving at Stirling, we stopped first to photograph Stirling Bridge. This old, medieval bridge, which no longer carries traffic, is close to the site of a predecessor at which was fought a famous battle in 1297 between the forces of William Wallace and an invading English army.

Next, we went up to Stirling Castle  from which point we took some landscape images before moving on to photograph the castle from the west. This aspect clearly illustrates the volcanic plug on which the castle is situated.

Next on to the former Royal hunting lodge of Doune Castle  which in recent times has gained fame as a location for a Monty Python film. A large and somewhat formidable castle in good condition with the fading light providing an additional dimension.

After concluding out tour of Doune Castle we drove towards our lodgings at Aberfoyle, stopping en-route for some pictures of the Lake of Menteith.

Tomorrow we explore Loch Katrine and the Trossachs.
