Footplate of Jacobite Express Steam Train

This evening, I am posting images, videos and information concerning the popular Jacobite Express Steam Train which operates during the tourist season along the 41 mile (66 km) route from Fort William to Mallaig in the Scottish Highlands. This train ride has proved extremely popular on two counts: (1) The outstanding scenic beauty via Loch Eil, Glenfinnan and Arisaig and (2) Connection with the ‘Harry Potter’ stories and film via the ‘Hogwarts Express’.

One of the best vantage points for viewing the train is at Glenfinnan, about 17 miles west of Fort William. Here there is a monument recording the landing of Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745 coupled with excellent views of Loch Shiel.

Whenever possible, I arrange my tours of the area to coincide with the train passing over the Glenfinnan Viaduct which itself is of historic interest being the world’s first bridge built from non-reinforced concrete. It was completed in 1901.

Some of my guests avail of the train ride.
