This evening, I am focusing on the small town (pop¬† 1400) of Kingussie which is located in Scotland’s Cairngorms National Park, south of Aviemore.

This area is well suited to outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, horse riding and walking.

Kingussie is well resourced in terms of hotels, lodgings, restaurants and cafes.

Visitor attractions nearby include:

  • Highland Folk Museum: Connect with Highland life over time periods stretching back to the 1700s.
  • Highland wildlife Park:¬†A 200 acre site featuring a wide range of birds and animals from around the world including the rare Scottish Wildcat.
  • Insh Marshes Reserve ( bird watching):¬†A woodland with marshes against a mountainous backdrop. An important wetlands site home to many species including ducks, geese and wading birds.
  • Ruthven Barracks: Ruins of an 18th century Redcoat fort built on the site of a medieval castle.
