This evening, I am focusing on a Scottish mountain named Aonach Mor north of Fort William in the Scottish Highlands. This peak is part of the Grampian Mountains and the name translates into English as ” Big Ridge”. Height is 1221 metres or 4006 feet and thus ranks as a ‘Munro’ or one of the 282 mountains in Scotland exceeding 3000 feet.

Aonach Mor has a gondola cable car lift up its northern face to transport sportspeople and sightseers near to the summit where there are shops and refreshment facilities. In winter the mountain is popular with skiers and snowboarders (see video clip above) whilst in summer downhill mountain bikers take over. Aonach Mor has hosted nine Mountain Bike World Cup events up to 2012 and is scheduled to host the 2013 event.

When weather conditions are right I take my tour guests up the mountain using the cable car to benefit from the stunning views looking north (see video clip below) and observe the various sporting activities in progress.

Another scenic area in the vicinity is Glen Nevis.
