Glasgow, like most of the rest of the U.K., is currently suffering an unseasonal bout of extreme winter conditions which are likely to prevail well into next week. Unrelenting winds from the east are keeping temperatures down to around freezing and the ground is covered with a blanket of snow. Against this backdrop seasonal Spring  blooms like daffodill and crocus are failing to emerge. The images immediately above and below illustrate the snowy landscape in the West End of Glasgow.

In order to experience a complete change of environment, yesterday I visited Glasgow’s Botanic Gardens which are home to a wide range of colourful and exotic plants with many displaying vibrant and colourful flowers-in contrast to the icy conditions prevailing outside.
