This morning, we departed our Portree lodgings and headed north and proceeded as follows:

  • Stiff climb up to the base of the famous Old Man of Storr. Here we availed of superb views of the rugged landscape and¬† seascape towards the mainland. Also encountered a very tuneful Robin in full flow.

  • Museum of Island Life which affords a connection to bygone days of thatched houses, peat fires and agrarian way of life.

  • A couple of Highland Cows ambling along the road, to great delight of the tourists!

  • Lunch at Uig Bay where our viist coincided with arrival of the ferry from Lewis.
  • ¬†The unique landscape of small conical hills at Fairy Glen. Also good views over the local landscape.

  • The derelict church at Trumpan, site of a clan massacre in the 16th century.

  • Visits to Skyeskins and a craft shop specialising in wool and knitting.

Overall, a good day which stayed unexpectedly dry throughout.
