King’s Lynn Minster, England

This evening, I am posting information on the Minster and Priory Church of St. Margaret, St Mary Magdelene and all the Virgin Saints. Locally, in King’s Lynn, the church is known as “St. Margaret’s”.

The town of King’s Lynn is in the county of Norfolk in eastern England, on the banks of the River Ouse and close to the coastal area known as the Wash.

St. Margaret’s falls within the Church of England in turn part of the worldwide Anglican Communion. The church was designated a Minster in 2011 in recognition of its wide ranging ministry in the Diocese of Norwich.

From a historical perspective, St Margaret’s was founded as a pre-Reformation, Benedictine Priory in 1101 by Herbert de Losinga, the first Bishop of Norwich. For the next 4000 years St Margaret’s served as both monks’ home and parish church.Inside can be found vibrant stained glass windows, medieval furnishings and a huge Victorian reredos (decorative screen behind the altar).
