This morning we departed our Inverness lodgings and proceeded as follows:

  • First to Culloden Battlefield and Visitor Centre, about 15 minutes from Inverness. At this site was fought the last battle on British soil where, in 1746, a Hanoverian, British army defeated a Jacobite army of Highlanders led by ‘Bonnie’ Prince Charlie. The battle was an overwhelming victory for the British. The Jacobites suffered high casualties the bodies of which are buried on site in mass graves delineated by respective clan names. The Visitor Centre provides excellent information on pre and post battle events and the battle itself.
