Lennox Castle, Lennoxtown, Scotland

This evening, I am focusing on an interesting ruin located near Lennoxtown on the southern edge of the Campsie Fells, north of Glasgow.

Lennox Castle is a pseudo Norman castle constructed 1837-41 by John Lennox Kincaid, member of a family with claims to the ancient title of Earls of Lennox.

During the period 1936-1987 the building was used as a mental institution from which era stories of appalling abuse and mistreatment have emerged.

The three story mansion is constructed of red sandstone.

The building’s current decrepit state is result of a fire in 2008. Demolition is now a possibility.
