Tobermory Single Malts

This evening, I am focusing on Tobermory Distillery on the Isle of Mull, West of Scotland.

This is a very old distillery dating from 1798 subsequent to which many closures, re-openings and ownership changes have occurred. Ultimate parent is now Distell of South Africa.

Capacity is modest at about 750,000 litres per annum produced from a cast iron mash tun, four wooden washbacks and two pairs of stills.

Single malt production is split roughly  50/50 between unpeated Tobermory and peated Ledaig.

Core products comprise 10 and 15 year old Tobermory and 10 year old Ledaig, all of which are unchillfiltered and bottled at 46.3pct alcohol.

Distillery tours are available although photography of the production process is not permitted.
