056031 This morning, I commenced Day 3 of my hike along Hadrian’s Wall.

During the morning I experienced very heavy rain and was grateful for my full waterproof kit and heavy leather boots, especially as the trail was waterlogged and muddy for most of the way. Fortunately, the rain eased around lunchtime and thereafter I benefited from sunshine and blue skies.

Today was Day 4 of my hike along Hadrian’s Wall. Although distance was only 8 miles/13 km the first section from Once Brewed to the Roman Army Museum was very hard going due to a combination of rugged terrain and short, steep gradients. However, the weather was benign and the physical exertion was rewarded by the excellent views and well-preserved nature of the Wall for long stretches. Indeed, this remote section of the Wall is the best preserved of the entire monument.Along the way I encountered:
