Path to Conic Hill, Loch Lomond, Scotland

Today, benefiting from a winter ‘weather window’ I took the opportunity to climb Conic Hill located on the S.E. side of Loch Lomond.

Using the small loch-side village of Balmaha as a start point I connected with the West Highland Way trail and then embarked on the one hour ascent which entailed a diversion up a short rocky path to reach the summit which stands at a height of 350m or 1175 feet.

The weather held for most of the time thus providing good opportunities f0r scenic photographs of the loch and landscape in winter. In the course of the hike I encountered:

  • A large flock of sheep.
  • A near vertical rainbow.
  • Many other like-minded hikers, of all ages.
  • Bird life.
  • Numerous mountain streams in full spate.

Overall, a satisfying and enjoyable trip.
