Donald Dewar Statue, Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow, Scotland

This evening, I am posting information on Donald Dewar, a former Scottish politician whose statue graces the centre of Glasgow. close to the Royal Concert Hall and Buchanan Galleries ( shopping mall) and as such is seen by hundreds of thousands of passers-by each year.

Donald Campbell Dewar ( 1937-2000) was a leading figure in the Scottish Labour movement, a left of centre party. A lawyer by training, he was elected to the Westminster Parliament in London where he led the ( successful) campaign for Scottish Devolution and became the inaugural holder of the post of First Minister of Scotland in 1999. Unfortunately, Donald Dewar died somewhat prematurely, of a brain haemorrhage, in 2000.

The statue illustrated above is 9 feet/3 metres tall, made of bronze and was erected in 2002.
