Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Renfrew Street, Glasgow

This evening, I am focusing on the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow’s Renfrew Street.

This institution has a lineage dating back to 1845. By 1968 the name was Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama which changed to Royal Conservatoire of Scotland on September 1st 2011.

Current student roll is 799 of which 80 pct are undergraduates and 20 pct post graduates. Degree awarding status was achieved in 1993.

Within the Conservatoire are three schools, viz:

  • Music
  • Drama, Dance, Production and Screen
  • Junior ( Music, drama and dance).

The building illustrated herein dates from 1988. Architects were:

  • Sir Leslie Martin with Ivor Richards ( 1982-8).
  • William Nimmo & Partners.

There is a second campus at Cowcaddens (Glasgow) known as Speirs Locks Studios.

Guided tours are provided twice each term.

A wide range of productions are available for public viewing.
