Shawlands, Glasgow, Scotland

This evening, I am posting information on the Shawlands district of Glasgow, Scotland.

The name derives from the Old English for ‘woodlands’  and indicates the landscape of some 1000 years ago rather than today.

Location is some two miles south of the River Clyde and within easy reach of central Glasgow.

Shawlands is mixed from both cultural and socio-economic perspectives. Of the 8000 residents 82 pct reside in flats, with many on low-middle incomes.

Shawlands is well endowed with shops, banks, churches, restaurants and pubs.

Nearby is Queen’s Park  which offers recreation facilities.
