OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Above image shows Fallow Deer at Chatsworth Park, England   This morning, we departed our lodgings in Bakewell and drove a few miles to nearby Chatsworth where we spent most of the day. Key facts and information concerning Chatsworth as follows:-

  • Has been in the family of the Dukes of Devonshire for five centuries.
  • Rebuilt in Baroque style by the 1st Duke ( 1640-1707).
  • Landscaped by Capability Brown in 18th century.
  • Set in parkland which extends to 400 hectares.
  • Inside the house can be found art work collections including  work by old masters, an extensive library and collections of sculptures., furniture, ceramics, minerals and textiles.
  • Close to the house can be found extensive and sophisticated gardens including a water cascade. There is a maze, 90 metre high fountain and elaborate rock garden.
  • Kathleen, the sister of President John F Kennedy was married to the son of the 10th Duke.  She died in an aeroplane accident in 1948.

During our visit filming was in progress using the House as a substitute for Buckingham Palace. The footmen below are actors.
