This morning, we departed our lodgings near Evanton and drove along a narrow road to view and photograph Black Rock Gorge in Glen Glass. In the past, this site has been used in Harry Potter films.

Next, we returned to Evanton and then on to Foulis Castle to  attend the Clan Gathering. Here, there was a speech by the Clan Chief followed by numerous events including:

  • Pipe Band.
  • Re-enactment battles.
  • Ladies fashion in the Renaissance period.
  • Sheepdog handling.
  • Medieval food.
  • Archery
  • Medieval punishments, stocks and pillories.
  • Birds of prey.
  • Traditional Scottish music.
  • Archaeology of Foulis Castle grounds.

The event benefited from sunny and dry weather.

After departing Foulis mid-afternoon, we drove up the coast to the pleasant town of Dornoch where we visited the Cathedral, shops, beach and golf course.

We called in at Alness for dinner on the return trip to Kiltearn.

Tomorrow, we visit Inverness, Culloden Battlefield and then on south to Edinburgh.
