Italian Garden

This evening, I am posting information on the Italian Garden at Glamis Castle in the East of Scotland.

Glamis Castle has a history dating back to the 14th century and even features in Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The Castle has been in the family of the Earls of Strathmore since 1372 and has connections with British Royalty through the late Queen Mother. The Castle and grounds are a popular visitor attraction.

The Italian Garden was commissioned by Countess Cecilia in 1910 to resemble the garden at her family home in Italy.Key features:

  • Pleached beech bowers.
  • Herbaceous borders.
  • 17th. century style gazeboes.
  • Fountain.
  • Box hedges arranged in the shape of a fan which, in conjunction with different coloured plants, provide a rainbow effect.
  • Wrought iron main entrance gate commemorating the 80th birthday of the late Queen Mother.
