Kilmahew Castle, Cardross, Scotland

Tonight, I am posting information on Kilmahew Castle which is located near Cardross on the North bank of the Firth of Clyde, halfway between Helensburgh and Dumbarton.

The ruins evident today derive from a four storey Tower House built in the 16th century. This was home to eighteen generations of the Napier family through to around 1820. The Napiers were known for their engineering prowess.

After the end of Napier ownership the castle underwent various changes of ownership and was occupied until the late 19th century.

In 1948 the castle and related estate was acquired by the R.C. Archdiocese of Glasgow.
