Garden on Iona

This morning, we departed our excellent Iona lodgings and walked round to visit the historic, Christian sites comprising a ruined Augustinian Nunnery and the famous Iona Abbey which can trace its origins back to the 6th century established by St Columba in the 6th century AD. The early Abbey was bedevilled by vicious Viking raids in the 9th century notwithstanding the famous Book of Kells was spirited away by the monks to safe keeping in Ireland where it remains to this day.
