Prestwick Golf Club, Scotland

Today, I visited Prestwick Golf Course, one of Scotland’s top courses which is classified as a West Coast Links Course and located in Ayrshire on the edge of the Firth of Clyde, about 34 miles SSW of Glasgow.

The club was founded in 1851 with a twelve hole course designed by Tom Morris Senior and converted to eighteen holes in 1882. Other facts and information:-

  • Prestwick is the birthplace of the Open Championship with first match held in 1860.
  • Prestwick hosted the first international professional golf championship, between Scotland and England, in 1903.
  • Although Prestwick has hosted many Open Championships the course was removed from the rota after 1925 due to inadequate space for spectators.
