Rhododendron at Brodick Castle

This evening, I am posting images and information on Brodick Castle Gardens on the Isle of Arran, S.W.Scotland.

The climate here is mild and wet facilitating growth of sub-tropical plants and trees.

Key features of this garden are:

  • Formal, walled gardens which were reconstructed in 1982 from original, 1920s template.
  • Ponds and lower garden containing primulas, hostas, gunneras, hydrangeas, ferns and cobra lilies.
  • Himalayan Juniper.
  • Three national collections of rhododendrons which flower during most months of the year.
  • Bavarian Summer House dating from 1845.
  • Hybrid plants.
  • Eucalyptus grove.
  • A fine southern beech tree from the Chilean Andes.
  • Streams, ponds and subtle shades of green which vary throughout the year.

In addition to the impressive gardens visitors can explore the wider country park and tour interior of the castle.
