John Brown Memorial, Craithie, Scotland

This evening, I am posting information on John Brown, the famous loyal servant of Queen Victoria.

Brown lived 1826-1883. He was employed on the Balmoral Estate when Queen Victoria acquired it and progressively moved up from personal ghillie to Prince Albert to servant of Queen Victoria with latter spanning period 1861-1883. After the death of Prince Albert Brown became a close confident of Queen Victoria a position which triggered gossip on the extent of the relationship between the two.

Brown may well have saved Queen Victoria from harm when he disarmed an assailant in 1872.

Brown’s memorial can be found in a burial ground at Craithie near Balmoral, about 48 miles west of Aberdeen in the Scottish Highlands.
