This morning we departed our lodgings in Ambleside, Lake District, England and visited two nearby sites connected with famous writers, namely Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth.

First, we drove a short distance to Grasmere to join the 10.00 am guided tour of Dove Cottage. Here a very competent guide provided insight into life and living conditions of the (large) Wordworth family. The tenor of the home was characterised by stone floors, dark panelled rooms, coal fires and artifacts and furniture belonging to the family.
