Father Christmas at Stewarton, Scotland

Today, Christmas Day, I took the opportunity of a break in the incessant rain patterns to embark on a cycle ride in a rural area of East Ayrshire, south of Glasgow which in turn us located in S.W. Scotland. Much of the ride was undertaken on the B769 to/from the village of Stewarton.

Temperature was unseasonally mild at about 7 centigrade with nominal wind.

Visibility was around the minimum for photography and reasonable considering we are a just a few days past the winter equinox. However, the camera did struggle with certain distance shots.

Along the route I encountered:

  • Various breeds of sheep including one flock with black fleece.
  • Brown and white Ayrshire cattle.
  • Horses attired with protective and colourful winter coats.
  • Farms and rural landscapes.
  • A new wind farm, Middleton.
  • Possible site of Iron-Age Crannog.( Circular house built on artificial island.)
  • The village of Stewarton.

Overall, a timely and satisfying trip.
