Skye Bridge, Scotland from Kyleakin

This evening, I am posting information on the Skye Bridge which links the eastern side of the Isle of Skye with Kyle of Lochalsh on the Scottish mainland.

The Isle of Skye is a popular visitor destination located off the west coast of Scotland and forms part of the Inner Hebrides.

The images herein were taken across a spectrum of seasons, ranging from summer to winter.

This bridge opened in 1995 to replace a ferry crossing. More information as follows:

  • Spans stretch of water forming part of Loch Alsh.
  • Made of concrete and steel.
  • Toll free.
  • Design is single-span, concrete arch.
  • Length is one mile (1.6km).
  • Forms part of A87 highway.

Settlements and visitor attractions in the immediate vicinity of the bridge include Kyle of Lochalsh (village), , Eilean Donan Castle, Kyleakin (village) and Broadford (village).
