Kyleakin, Isle of Skye, Scotland

This evening, I am posting information on the village of Kyleakin on the eastern tip of Isle of Skye which in turn forms part of the Inner Hebrides.

Kyleakin is tucked away close to the Skye Bridge, on the shore of a stretch of water known as Kyle Akin, and opposite Kyle of Lochalsh.More information:

  • There is a harbour able to accommodate a wide range of boats.
  • Connections with King Haakon and Norwegian rule dating back to the 13th century.
  • Caisteal Maol (see image below) is now an unsafe ruin but at its peak in the 15th-17th centuries commanded the local waterway. This castle has historical connections with Clan Mackinnon.
  • Kyleakin is home to a wide range of visitor accommodation and offers a good base for touring the Isle of Skye.
  • Located about 11 miles west of Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland’s top visitor attractions.
